MSU's Ozarks festival coming up
Missouri State University's 10th annual Ozarks Celebration Festival Kick-Off Concert starts at 7 p.m. Sept. 7 at John H. Keiser Plaza and Amphitheater, Grand Street and John Q. Hammons Parkway. Admission to the concert, featuring Ozarks band Big Smith, is free.
The Ozarks Celebration Festival Music and Craft Festival is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 8 and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 9 on the grounds of Carrington Hall and inside Plaster Student Union. Storytellers, musicians, crafters and vendors gather to offer a glimpse into the region's past during the free event.

Animal Paradise Family Fun Park opens
Check out the new Animal Paradise Family Fun Park during its grand opening weekend today through Sunday. It's at the site of the former Exotic Animal Paradise, 124 Jungle Drive in Stafford. A ribbon cutting is at 11 a.m. today. Activities include a drive-through or guided-tram safari tour to see lions, tigers, llamas, bison, zebras, exotic deer and birds, water buffalo, monkeys and more animals. The park also includes the Route 66 Speedway with all new go-carts, an arcade, Paradise Cafe, Taffy & Co. Candy Shop and a petting zoo.
Activity prices vary. One-day safari passes are $14, $9 for kids ages 4 to 12, Free for kids 3 and younger. A one-day family pass is $43, with super safari and season passes available. Webster, Christian and Greene County resident drivers, with ID, get in Free with two paying passengers.

Walnut Valley Festival Sept. 12-16
The 36th annual Walnut Valley Festival, the national flat-picking championships, is Sept. 12 through 16 in Winfield, Kan. Performers include The Wilders, Cadillac Sky, Alecia Nugent, John McCutcheon, Mountain Smoke, Still on the Hill, Andy May and many others.
Musicians can enter dulcimer, mandolin, fiddle, banjo and flat-pick guitar contests and attend workshops. If you're not a musician, you can check out the concerts, browse the craft booths or take up contra dancing. Ticket prices range in price to $90 (five-day pass) to $15 (Sunday only); $5 for children ages 6-11; free for ages 5 and younger. For information, call (620) 221-3250 or visit www.wvfest.com.
